The little lost Defense Secretary

Rumsfeld vs. His Generals

If you listen to Defense Secretary Rumsfeld, you'd think everything is going very smoothly in his war. In fact, he is so happy about it, he is ready to invade Syria and Iran too.

But as always, military commanders tend to be more brutally honest about things.

General Tommy Franks tells MSNBC today that U.S. troops might be a little bit shocked by Iraq's battle response. Is being a little bit shocked like being a little bit pregnant?

Gen. Richard Myers, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, gave another telling quote. In defending the US battle plan of sending the Army 3rd Infantry and the Marine 1st Division Expeditionary Force so quickly toward Baghdad before being able to secure any major cities in the South, he says, "it was necessary to try to bring down this regime as quickly as possible. Now it looks like the Iraqi government may not be going down so quickly.

These acknowledgements by the nation's top two military leaders coupled with what Lt. Gen. William S. Wallace told the Washington Post form a remarkable admission of the obvious setbacks in the war so far for the Anglo-American forces (obvious, unless the US networks are your only source for news, but then you wouldn't be reading this).
